Always Look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance

Posted February 5, 2016

With the marketplace awash with oral hygiene products, it can sometimes be a serious challenge to choose the right products for you and your family.

It’s important to keep in mind that some oral hygiene products are only meant for cosmetic purposes. In most cases they do little more than freshen your breath while failing to live up to the exorbitant marketing claims. The agents and ingredients in most of these products have little to no value to an effective oral hygiene routine.

Fortunately, the American Dental Association takes a proactive approach to help consumers find the safest most effective products for their oral hygiene needs.

The ADA started their Seal of Acceptance program in 1931 to note the hallmark standards for oral hygiene products. The Seal of Acceptance program is voluntary. When a manufacturer launches a new oral hygiene product they can submit it to the ADA for consideration.

The ADA will then research the agents and active ingredients as well as test the product for safety and effectiveness. If it passes their rigorous guidelines, it will receive certification for the Seal of Acceptance to be printed on the label.

The ADA has also posted links on their website to help consumer search through the approved products available on the market today.
