Why Flossing is Beneficial

Posted March 28, 2016

There are many reasons why flossing is strongly recommended. It can do wonders for your smile and it can give you the strong and successful oral health you deserve. It can also:

Prevent plaque buildup
The most helpful thing flossing can do for your smile is prevent plaque buildup. This is extremely beneficial because plaque destroys your teeth and gums if it’s left untreated. Yes, your toothbrush does tend to remove the majority of the plaque from your smile, but it doesn’t clean the hard-to-reach areas like flossing can. When you floss, the plaque that grows between your teeth is removed.

Freshen your breath
Sometimes bad breath can be caused by a small piece of food stuck in your chompers. This is another reason why flossing can be extremely helpful. If you suffer from bad breath and you try to fix it by flossing, the odorous food particle will be removed from your teeth and you will have your pristine and fresh breath once again.

Help you have a clean smile
If you floss your teeth after you eat a meal or snack, you won’t have a food-filled smile, which significantly decreases your chances of having an embarrassing food-stuck-in-your-teeth moment. The more you floss, the cleaner your chompers will be.

Dr. John Vellequette and our Smile Center Silicon Valley team cares for you and your smile, which is why we ask that you please floss your teeth at least once a day. The more you floss, the better off your oral health will be!
